Sunday Music on Mondays

The last days were simply hot. We were promised a sharp drop of temperature, but it did not really happen. There was Wetterleuchten, summer lightning says the dictionary ; it means that one sees the lightning only, it is far away hence no or only very light thunder ; no rain. Rain came later, but brought no cooling, only humidity, the air feels like the proverbial wet blanket.
I pack my Rucksack and will leave for some days in Suebia. It is always at least four degrees chillier on top of the Alb, perhaps there is a chance to go there.
Now let’s hear some music – the Finnish organist Kalevi KIVINIEMI (Ger., Eng.) gives us Claude Bénigne BALBASTREs (1724-1799) (Ger., Eng.) Cannonade. He uses the organ of the Abteikirche Neresheim (Ger., Eng.). (Play it loud. It is called Raumklang for a reason.) I think he performs well, so the over-edited video is if bearable. And just to compare, here is the full Cembalo / harpsichord version.
I hope you like the music. May the coming week be bearable for all of us.

  1. He seems to have mastered his organ, and has nice shiny shoes. What’s not to love?
We have just had a torrential downpour! Hopefully the humidity will be washed away. Have a lovely week!

  2. Here pours nothing down, it’s muggy & stiffling. I even can’t have a Sylvaner, the consequences would be fatal ; less alcohol related, but under these circumstances even the best wine gives one (met, at least) terrible headaches even by very modest consumption. The upside is, no drink equals no cigarette – and this is very fine !

  3. I just read somewhere that there is warning of severe weather for your region, Z, heavy rain etc., hope it will pass without any accident(s).
It’s the humidity and the air pressure that turns me into something to be mopped up. I am slow, head hurts, not really loadable. Where i was born it was cold, 25° C would have been seen as major heatwave then.

  4. Some phrases of that music reminded me of the organ wedding music from “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, which I now have an urge to watch…
Speaking of watching films, I don’t know if you’ve seen the remake of “War of the Worlds” (the Tom Cruise version), but the aliens come to Earth during eerily silent lightning storms, and that’s what this recent silent lightning (yes, we had some too) reminds me of. I just hope it was actual lightning, and that aliens aren’t going to rise up from the ground now…

    Stay cool in Suebia!

  5. Sorry IDV, I haven’t seen any film in the last years, I not even knew that there is a remake of War of the Worlds – with Tom Cruise of all them misfits …
But regarding aliens – I am surrounded by them !

  6. Are you a happy wanderer?

    ♫I love to go a-wandering
    Along the mountain track
And as I go, I love to sing
    My knapsack on my back
    Val-deri, val-dera
    Val-deri, val-dera
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
    My knapsack on my back♫
