Sunday Music, Monday Edition

It is a good thing to have a three-day-working week. I am not a friend of “national (holi)days”, and am not quite sure why the third of October was chosen, but if Großdeutschland concludes that it needs a holiday, so be it.
Sometime last week the Parliament decided that the “Stasi-Behörde” shall end its existence in the present form. The secret service of the DDR, commonly known as Staatssicherheit, hence StaSi, left behind a vast collection of files, materials – after all they existed for quiet some time and were very busy collecting & observing. This tremendous treasure trove of files, of knowledge, is still accessible for citizens. Many citizens of the former DDR wanted, and still want !, to know what the state knew about them. It is also interesting for citizens of the former Western Germany : I would like to fill a form and get anything about my father – it would take some time of course, but basically it (hopefully still) is that easy to ask for information.
The Parliament decided that this Behörde / agency shall end its existence and the files shall become part of the Bundesarchiv (“integrated”). Sounds reasonable, files to files, ashes to ashes … It effectively ends the agency’s role as information office. And besides one opinion piece in a conservative daily (here, German only) I found nothing about this whole “Vorgang”, case.
Nobody really cares, few understand – its just files after all, who needs them anyway ?
I think Michel FOUCAULT somewhere said that the real “Macht”, authority (?), is not in the possession of those who rule the (public) discourse, but those are in power, who define the discourse’s limit, draw the boundaries. Dumping some tons of (unwanted) files in an archive, and hence limiting the public’s access to said files, is surely an act of exercising power, controlling. If this does not silence, so at least it exacerbates an interesting part of the historical debate and examination of a lot of cases from one generation ago (thirty years now). Shame upon him, who thinks evil about it.
Let’s turn around from this ugly actuality, and dance with the Mademoiselle de Bucarest, here she comes in the form FOAIE VERDE gave her in 2017.
I hope you enjoy the music, may we all have a peaceful week, and live through it unharmed & unhurt.
